The CISERO and UNLOCK-CEI projects examined Europe’s role in the development of Cloud-Edge-IoT technologies, on November 13th during “The Future of Cloud and Edge Technologies in the EU: Market Insights and Sustainability Roadmap” webinar.
As cloud and edge technologies grow essential for secure data processing and sharing, Europe’s leadership in this field is vital for innovation, competitiveness, and economic resilience. Initiatives like IPCEI-CIS and EUCloudEdgeIoT aim to establish Europe as a global leader by fostering scalable, secure, and federated cloud-edge infrastructures, aligning with the EU’s Digital Decade and sustainability goals.
Projects such as UNLOCK-CEI and CISERO are instrumental in this effort. UNLOCK-CEI recently mapped the demand and supply landscape of cloud-edge-IoT technologies, while CISERO supports IPCEI-CIS by coordinating resources, fostering collaboration, and building a robust ecosystem for adopting cloud and edge solutions.
This webinar highlighted these synergies, discussing trends, market pathways, and methodologies from UNLOCK-CEI while exploring CISERO’s roadmap for sustainability. A key focus was AI’s role in the computing continuum, with EU-funded projects showcasing applications of AI at the edge. These insights provide a foundation for overcoming integration challenges and advancing Europe’s cloud-edge ecosystem.
The MANOLO input was mostly related to showing MANOLO as a “client” of the continuum, where any AI-related process may get optimized by a proper resource allocation into the continuum stack. The panel introduced many interesting questions, dealing for example with the barriers to adopting the continuum, ranging from a non-concrete business model the whole continuum operation, the security, or the lack of standards.
