The MANOLO project contributed to the 61st Summer School of NCSR Demokritos through a lecture on Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence. The lecture, titled “How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Trust AI”, introduced participants to the principles and practical implementation of trustworthy AI.
Held from 6–10 July at the premises of NCSR Demokritos, the Summer School welcomed more than 500 participants, while the lecture itself attracted approximately 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students, reflecting the growing interest in trustworthy AI among the next generation of researchers and practitioners.
The presentation explored AI trust from three complementary perspectives. It began by examining how machine learning and statistical generalisation shape modern AI systems and what it means to assess the trustworthiness of statistical models. It then introduced the key provisions of the EU AI Act, highlighting the obligations placed on high-risk AI systems to ensure transparency, accountability, and reliability.
The final part of the lecture demonstrated how these regulatory requirements can be translated into concrete technical practices. The MANOLO framework was presented as a practical foundation that enables AI developers to build trustworthy AI systems by integrating technical methods that support compliance with emerging European regulations while maintaining high performance and efficiency across cloud-edge environments.
By engaging with a large audience of students and early-career researchers, the lecture highlighted the importance of combining cutting-edge AI research with practical regulatory compliance. The session reinforced MANOLO’s mission to advance the development of trustworthy and transparent AI systems while equipping future AI professionals with the knowledge needed to navigate Europe’s evolving regulatory landscape.
